SE17 Fund Drive June 17-24, 2025
At the 2024 SE17 in Chicago, the Executive Committee voted to create a fund in memory of our longtime colleague Perry Gethner, Regents Professor of Foreign Languages emeritus at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, who passed away in November 2023. As an alumnus of Carleton College and a scholar who so often worked to bring the artistry of the marginalized and forgotten into our scholarly vista, Perry is remembered by us for his mentorship, decency, and the ability find a way to sing whenever presenting a paper on just about any topic. Indeed, Perry loved music and theatre and strongly supported bringing these arts to the entertainment at our conferences. With this in mind, the board voted to create the Perry Gethner Fund to ensure our conference can be held at smaller and/or less well funded sponsoring institutions, as well as to support the kind of musical and other entertainment that Perry so loved at all our meetings.
